Leadership Training Program (LTP)
LTP is for high school age teens that desire to develop in the areas of prayer, community, theology, and personal leadership skills. Meetings will take place once a month on a Sunday night. Other opportunities for service, formation, and fellowship will also take place throughout the year.
Prayer:
‘Without prayer we have neither light nor strength to advance in the way which leads to God.’ (St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori) Learning to pray and learning to love to pray are challenges we all face. For young men and women, the need for prayer in community and personally is so very important. Central to the LTP is Christ, and coming to Him in prayer
Community:
Leadership team members will model after the words of Jesus, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” (Mk 9:35) Service is a byproduct of love, and love means to seek and will the good of another. To strive forward in this area, members will look for opportunities in their personal lives and in their parish life to serve (love) others. This will include planning and running special events for younger students, planning and running works of mercy projects, giving talks, and running activities and prayer at our middle school CATACOMBS meetings.
Theology:
Theology is ‘Faith Seeking Understanding’. (St. Anselm) Statistically speaking, the number one reason teens leave the church and abandon their faith is because they never received good answers to their questions about God and the Church. Knowing why we believe what we believe and being able to explain the reason for our hope is critical.
Personal Leadership Skills:
Jesus Christ is the perfect model of a leader. Team members will look to Christ and the practical skills He used in the Gospels to help bring about the Kingdom of God. This includes developing confidence as a son or daughter of God, understanding and growing in personal virtues, and developing public speaking skills. These are not easy skills to develop, but they are important qualities of a good leader.
Membership on the Team:
There is no cost to join the LTP. However, this program will only survive if the team members are committed to attending meetings and special events. Life happens and not everyone will make it to every meeting date. That is understandable. But desire matters, and only students who desire to be in the program should in fact be in the program.
